Weight Loss tips for setting Goals that you can begin using immediately

Setting personal goals for weight loss makes the difference between success and failure. By setting goals and striving to meet or exceed them, you keep yourself focused and motivated. However, if you set unrealistic goals you will feel discouraged and frustrated and be steered away from your own weight loss desires.

What follows are some tips on how to set your goals for your weight loss program.

  1. Be realistic. I hear of many people seeking to lose 30 pounds in 30 days and things like that. No-one should try to lose that much weight that fast. Most people cannot do it, in the first place. In the second place, if you find yourself losing one pound or more per day, you need to stop whatever weight loss program you’re on because you’ve got a different problem. Losing weight too rapidly causes health problems just as much as putting on too much weight is. But mostly, don’t set such extreme goals because you probably can’t achieve them. You can lose all the weight that you want and need to–but you need to set a realistic time line for it to happen.

  1. Focus on the process and make it fun. Make weight loss like your work of art. Enjoy the process, don’t just think exclusively about the end result. Think of how you want to look, see yourself looking like that, and then do things that you enjoy that further the end of weight loss. Maybe that is playing racquetball, maybe that is dancing, maybe it’s eating lean beef instead of fast food. Revel in your own success along the way.

  1. Set short term goals. Your long term goal for weight loss must be supported by short term goals that act as the stepping stones. Success breeds success. As you have more success meeting short term weight loss goals, you will become more confident and driven to meet the long term goal.

Reach you goals

  1. Write it down. Write down all of your short term, intermediate term, and ultimate weight loss goals. Writing them down solidifies them in your mind and gives you something to refer to if you lose your way.

  1. Find support (friends, groups, self-hypnosis programs, visualization, affirmations). You don’t want to go it alone. Weight loss is not easy for people who are used to being overweight. Surround yourself with supportive people and resources like a 12 Month Coaching Program .

The way to achieve weight loss is the way that anyone achieves anything important–set and achieve goals.
